The King of Jazz

I recently made an interesting discovery.  I guess it's not really much of a discovery, as obviously many people before me knew it, but I found it interesting.

I saw an article that named the "King of Jazz" as Bhumipol Adulyadej.  I recognized the name, having lived in Thailand, and I was surprised to see that he was considered the King of Jazz.  The "king" part I could quite understand, because his majesty is, indeed, the King of Thailand.

I was aware that he is the world's longest reigning monarch, and that the people of Thailand love him.  He has a reputation for going into poor areas of his country and setting up projects to bring water and electricity where they are needed. Because of his people's love for him, I had great respect for him.

However, I was not aware of his music, or if I had heard that he

played, I didn't have a clear understanding and appreciation of it.  Perhaps because Internet wasn't around when I was in Thailand (I'm dating myself), or because I was too young to appreciate music from an era before mine.

However, now with the marvels of modern communications and the Internet, blended with the fact that His Majesty seems pleased to present his music to the world without charge, I was able to listen to some of his compositions, and I was very favorably impressed.  You can catch some of his tunes here.  It gave me an interest in His Majesty on an entirely new level.  Happy listening!
